At the end of summer 2000, the Dyane featured in the movie
"the discovery of heaven"
directed by Jeroen Krabbé.
The film is based on the book "de ontdekking van
de hemel" written by Harry Mulisch.
In this film, the Dyane is the car of one of the main characters
Helga (played by Emma Fielding), who is the girlfriend of
Onno (played by Stephen Fry).
The photos shown here are a number of images from a series of
connected scenes. First, Helga brings Onno to the harbor, where
they say goodbye. Then Onno goes on the boat and Helga drives back
to Amsterdam and parks her Dyane close to the canal.
When she leaves with the groceries, a junkie (played by Dutch actor
Daniël Boissevain) suddenly appears, that smashes the windowpane of
one of the front doors and he tries to steal the car radio.
Helga is "not amused" and starts fighting with the junkie.
The junkie panics and stabs Helga with a knife. Onno's son: Quinten
(played by Neil Newbon) watches all this from the other side of the
canal and runs to save the live of his father's girlfriend. But
unfortunately, he's too late........
The original film slate for the film shoots with the Dyane.
Close-up of the dialogue at the parting of Helga and Onno.
The side door on the right has been removed for this shot.
For the shots with the driving Dyane, the camera was mounted on the back side of the Dyane
on a special frame for camera and cameraman.
Another close-up shot of the dialogue at the parting of Helga and Onno.
Because of the weight on the rear axle caused by the camera mounted
on the back side, special sand bags were used at the front as a counterweight.
A picturesque shot of the Bloemgracht in Amsterdam.
This was the scenery for a lot of action.
For the recording of the dialogue in the car, special microphones were
attached to the dashboard.
A junkie smashes the side window of the Dyane. For this, original car windows
were used. At the moment the third window was installed and being smashed,
it didn't break. The surprised actor dropped the stone which subsequently
hit the door. This caused a
in the door and a curse from the owner of the Dyane.
For the shots from the side of the driving car, the Dyane was placed
on a low trailer. When the trailer drives, the landscape passes the camera lens
which suggests a driving Dyane.
After having stabbed Helga, the junkie flees the scenery running.
Arrival of Helga and Onno in the harbor. A big group of extras is present.
Quinten kneels in front of Helga who dies in his arms. Desparately he calls for
help. Notice the fragments of glass of the smashed side window of the Dyane.
